Absent periods

Menstrual disorders can follow from the position of the pelvis, raised pelvic floor tension, or scars and adhesions in the pelvis.

Disturbed or absent menstruation can follow from the position of the pelvis — most often a marked forward tilt — which affects the tension of the structures inside it. Other common causes are raised pelvic floor tone, scars or adhesions in the pelvis, and dysfunction of the sacrum, coccyx and sacroiliac joints.

Therapy concentrates on balancing the position of the pelvis and, indirectly, of the uterus, on releasing the sacrum and on improving lymphatic drainage in the pelvis.

Physiotherapy does not replace endocrine assessment. If periods have stopped, hormonal and gynaecological causes need to be excluded first.
